5 Oct 2024

Members from around the organisation getting recognition for all that they do.

It’s always great to celebrate the contributions of individuals in the WSB annual awards ceremony.

New from 2024: Lucy Scott Cup for Best Young Trombone Player

This player has made rapid progress over the last year. She is an excellent reader and plays with confidence.  She is extremely keen and enjoys playing solos in the Solo Series Concerts.

This is awarded to Jessica Osei Akowuah.

Youth Brass Player of the Year

This young person is a founding member of the Band and extremely dedicated and loyal. A soloist who has shown her versatility and willingness to help.

This is award to Emma Pintat.

Bandsman of the Year

The winner of this cup is a true bandsman. Beyond playing, marshalling and organising he is extremely helpful and a brilliant odd job man. This player also assists the Beginners and Training Bands on a Saturday morning.

This is award to Colin Moss.

Joe Payne Personality of the Year

The winner of this cup is a staunch member of the band. Always cheerful. A man of many talents therefore a very busy person but much appreciated for his wit and humour.

This is award to Brian Stovold.

Lesley Widdicombe Trophy for Best Young Horn Player

This trophy this time goes to a flugel player. She moved to repiano last year and has just recently taken the flugel seat. She is growing in confidence and leading her section in "Hey Jude". She is very bubbly, a positive person and an asset to the Youth Band.

This is awarded to Anna Wilmut.

Ken Robey Cup for Meritorious Service

This player has been nominated by none other than the MD for Wantage Band, Chris King. Presented especially for his work as Librarian of Wantage Band. He works hard and motivates his team well. "Best Librarian I have ever worked with" says Chris.

This is award to Adam Johnstone.

Glover's Trophy for Best Percussionist

Quite a few nominations for this trophy so it goes to a team. They are very committed, often arriving early for rehearsals so they can rehearse their parts. They are very organised with each player knowing their role in a piece. All the players have shown huge improvements in technique and are all happy to move around between instruments and growing in confidence.

This is awarded to M Roe, Charlie Rendell and James Cox.

The Enterprise Award

This award goes to a player who has used her expertise and percussion knowledge to set about tidying and sorting out our enormous percussion instruments whilst also giving a hand in Beginner Band.

This is award to Anne Cockburn.

Presidents Award

This year this award goes to an extremely well deserved trainer in the band. Her patience, quality teaching skills, plus organisational skills are a great asset to the WSB but especially for all her training of the Beginners and help with Youth Band.

This is awarded to Judith Atkins.

New from 2024: Alan Sykes Cup for the Best Young Bass Player

She graduated from the Ready for Band course last December and decided to join Beginner Band at the same time. She is a very quick learner. She has got a great "Have A Go" attitude and always has a smile on her face.

This is award to Isla McIver.
